Hardwood, LVP, or Laminate: Choosing a Floor for Miami Humidity

In Miami, the question isn't just which floor looks best. It's which floor will still look best after a few rainy seasons. Humidity, concrete slabs, and sand tracked in from outside all affect how a floor performs, and each material handles them differently.

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is the most forgiving choice. It's waterproof, stable when humidity swings, and tough against pets and kids. It's the natural pick for kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and rentals, and today's wood-look planks are convincing.

Hardwood brings real wood grain and can be sanded and refinished for decades. On concrete slabs, engineered hardwood is usually the smarter option: its layered construction moves less with humidity than solid boards. Either way, it needs to acclimate in your home and go down over the right moisture barrier.

Laminate gives you a wood look for less and resists scratches well, but most laminate shouldn't be used in wet areas. It works well in bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways where water isn't a daily risk.

Many homes end up with a mix: LVP where water lives, wood or laminate where it doesn't, with clean transitions tying it together. During a free estimate, we look at each room and recommend the floor that fits how you actually use it.
